First Project

If you are anything like me, you have oodles and oodles of projects you would someday like to do. I have all of the fun ideas I'd love to do saved and organized neatly in my e-mail, however they are starting to pile up. I was hoping when we moved out to the mid-west I would suddenly become this creative/crafty individual like all the other women out there...it hasn't happened yet, but hey, I did at least complete one project so I’m going to give myself a little credit. I found this really cute DIY pillow on Etsy and since it was mostly hand sewing vs a machine (I don’t have a machine…) this was right down my alley. Initially I was making it for a Fall gift exchange. I didn’t make it to the exchange, therefore I was extremely happy to be able to keep it. Here are the items you need:

Pillow insert, felt (either one or two colors depending on what you want), needle, thread (I accidentally bought quilting thread..shows how much I know. Luckily it still worked), something to trace out rosettes

I wish I would have kept track of how long this project took so I could tell you. Honestly, it was a little time consuming, but nothing that I wouldn't do again - which means it is totally doable for anyone. Below is the finished product!! I think it turned out pretty well and goes perfectly with our bed! Follow the link above if you are interested in more detailed instructions.

Long Time...No Blog

So I'm definitely new at this whole blogging this. I'm not good at taking pictures of stuff we do, when I do take pictures it is easy to tell that I'm not Joe Photo, and I feel like I can't think of interesting things to say, but hopefully as time goes on I will get better at it.

A little bit ago, Rich and I were lucky enough to have his dad, sister Valecia and her five kids stop by our tiny apartment on their drive back to New York! It was crazy jammed in our little place, yet totally awesome to have them here even if it was only for a night. They got here while I was still at work, but I was able to meet them at Raccoon River Lake where they went swimming. The water was surprisingly warm and us adults (party poopers) that didn't bring our swimsuits ended up getting in anyway in our clothes cause it looked so fun. I of course disappoint myself because I didn't take any pictures there. Oh well, lesson learned. After the fun at the lake we came home and made homemade pizza, macaroni and hotdogs, and had ice cream sundaes for dessert. I know, I know, I'm the best host in the world. Gourmet foods only please :) After watching The Incredibles we played an intense game of "Hide the Object" and try to find it with just one clue. It was such a fun night. Rich and I were really sad to see them go. It's always nice to have family around, ya know?! It gets me really excited to come home for Christmas!
The cute kids (Colin, Victoria, Kenya and Tahlia - James is already asleep). How do you like Kenya's flowery PJ's she made herself? She is so proud of them and told me we could make some for me...um pretty sure that I would look like a huge whale in a moo-moo, so I'll pass. But she's so cute, she can pull it off.

Colin just flexing his muscles and showing off his red punch mustache. I swear this boy didn't wear a shirt the whole time he was here!

There is a project I have been working on for a bit and it is almost finished just a few last touches!! So, I'm crossing my fingers that I will get it posted sometime this week! I feel like if I say that, I am actually obligated to finish it and I need the extra motivation!

One Year Down...

So we officially hit our one year of marriage mark!! Lots of things have changed since last August 14, but just to name a few:
  1. We now live in Des Moines, IA where corn fields are abundant, but not as plentiful as the overly-tanned leathery ladies. Seriously, they are everywhere.
  2. I have actually learned to cook...and I really enjoy it! Who knew?!
  3. We both know things we would have never known pre-marriage. For example, Rich knows all about the Bachelorette or Bachelor, the contestants, and has an opinion on who he thinks will win. And I know more about the BCS, Pack 10, and Fantasy Football than I ever thought possible.
Two things that haven't changed:
  1. No children :)
  2. No pets
Disclaimer for the pic above: Rich wanted to take a knife/scary pic before we left for dinner. Not sure why, but we sure do look cool.

Here's just a little run down of our anniversary events. We celebrated it a little early in Utah by going to a Real soccer game and staying over night in Grand America. I was really excited about Grand America and it lived up to its expectations...super fun and relaxing! So on the actual day we went to a place called "Bang Bang - Mongolian Grill". Let's just say it was overrated. Too many choices + all you can eat = average. Afterwards we decided to go to a movie. Rich wanted to see "Scott Pilgrim"...barf. Instead we went to Toy Story 3 which was a great choice. Our first anniversary was terrific along with our first year!! Happy Anniversary to us!!
